Citizendium now offers authors the opportunity to submit articles written in their word processor. A Citizendium human Wiki-Converter will convert the document to the MediaWiki mark up code so that the article can appear in Citizendium as a regular encyclopedia article, complete with images, tables, notes and citation-sources (references). Please read this page in its entirety before you proceed to email us an article.

If you’d like to write an article but have no subject in mind, or too many in mind, consider an article we deem a “Core Article” that we would like to include in Citizendium soon.  Here find the links to the Citizendium pages listing Core Articles for different categories of subjects.  Only those in blue font-color have been already started, some in draft version accompanying an approved version.  Note many new articles left to start.

Archived policy page

This is an archived CZ policy page. The policy outlined here has been superseeded or abolished, and is likely irrelevant. Refer to CZ:Email_us_an_article_in_word_processor_format for current policy.

Citizendium offers authors the opportunity to submit articles written in their word processor. A citizen will convert the document to the MediaWiki mark up code so that the article can appear in Citizendium, complete with images, tables, notes and citation-sources (references). Please read this page before you email us an article.

We can accept articles written in Microsoft ‘.doc’ format, and also ‘.rtf’ files, which most word processors can generate. Just email your article, as an attachment, to cz-wikiformat@mail.citizendium.org.

We will need your preferred email address to maintain contact with you. Preferably, use your preferred email address to email us your article. In the body of the email, authors may add any comments regarding their article.

What happens next?

A member of the wiki-converting team will contact you confirming that your article has been accepted for conversion, and will keep you posted on the conversion progress.

After your article has been converted and posted to Citizendium, you will receive an email with a link to the article. You may want to make edits then. You can do that yourself, for minor edits, using Citizendium’s editor. Go to the article page, click the edit tab. The editor box will be in MediaWiki code, but you can easily make edits by following the code format you will see already there.

If you have extensive edits, as in the case of a complete re-write of a section of the article, submit the section to the mailing list and indicate the title of the article it belongs to, and the name of the Wiki-Converter. Include the words, "Attention:Person's Name", on the subject line, substituting for Person's Name the name of your wiki-converter.

Requirements for submitting articles in word processor format

To submit articles, you must sign-up as an author in Citizendium, if you have not already done so. You do that by filling in a Request Account web form.

To learn more about the author role, see: The Author Role

Also check out the Citizendium ‘Main Page’ for more information about Citizendium's mission: Welcome to Citizendium

If you have questions

If you have questions, email them to the mailing list. Someone will get back to you with an answer.

If you have questions after submitting an article, call the questions to the attention of the Wiki-Converter who initially responded to you. Include the words, "Attention:Person's Name", on the subject line, substituting for Person's Name the name of your wiki-converter. She/he will get back to you with an answer.

Nota Bene

Citizendium aims at credibility and quality, not just quantity, in its articles. Both the general public and credentialed experts are encouraged to get involved. We use our real names, not pseudonyms. We're both collegial and congenial.
