Welcome!
Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at CZ:Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! Hayford Peirce 15:11, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Some ideas for contributions
Sveikas, Audrius, and welcome aboard CZ. Hayford has already given you some hints as to how things work here in general, and I wish to add some more practical suggestions on what possibilities you have to contribute. I saw that you already started editing, but inspite of this, I took some of the keywords from the information you supplied upon registration, and display below the current state of related CZ articles (for icon documentation, see Template:Rpl/Doc):
- Computational biology: The study of biological systems by computational means [e]
- Bioinformatics: The study of (usually molecular) biological systems by computational means. [e]
- Computer program: A set of instructions to be executed by a computer. [e]
- Distributed computing: A strategy for improving the speed of highly parallelizable tasks by distributing pieces of the problem across many computers that together form a distributed computing system, e.g. BOINC, SETI@home. [e]
- Software development: Processes and procedures for developing software that matches the needs and requirements of a user. [e]
- Biology: The science of life — of complex, self-organizing, information-processing systems living in the past, present or future. [e]
- Academic journal: A regularly-published, peer-reviewed publication that publishes scholarship relating to an academic discipline. [e]
- Science 2.0: An umbrella term used to label the use of Web 2.0 tools for scientific purposes. [e]
In order to find articles dealing with similar topics, it's also worth looking at the Related Article subpages of such an article.
Furthermore, in case you are involved in homework assignments, please consider doing so via Eduzendium articles.
Finally, you can help future newcomers by giving your feedback on the above suggestions. To do so, please leave a note on my talk page.
Looking forward to fruitful collaborative editing, Daniel Mietchen 17:53, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Categories
David's comment was moved here from Audrius' User page
Biochemistry is a subgroup of the Chemistry category, and so should not be a page unless you have gotten previous permission. Did you? David E. Volk 16:20, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- I think the problem here may be that Citizendium does not use categories the way Wikipedia does. In principle, this means that the ontology is defined here on the basis of workgroups. I am not familiar with the details but I assume that Category:Plant physiology and Category:Biochemistry are not needed within this framework. Not so sure about Biology, though. --Daniel Mietchen 17:41, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- The article should belong to some category, otherwise it is difficult to find. If you think some category suits better, just recategorize. All three articles in the Biology section look more like either biochemistry or molecular biology but with the number so small it may really be better to have all three in one list. Welcome
Audrius, I noticed you are working in the Computers area and want to thank you for contributing. Welcome to the CZ!Pat Palmer
