Citizendium has been around since 2006, and has undergone several different styles of management and at least four different managing editors. Here is the current set of rules as of 2024.
1) Citizendium is a public knowledge resource, and its articles are freely accessible online under a license that means our articles are reusable with attribution.
2) Citizendium is a wiki where members contribute using their real names, which are verified before they join. Members are expected to maintain some biographical information on the User page to help other contributors understand their interests. Minors must be at least 16 years old and can provide far less information, perhaps only their interests. User pages, while publicly readable, are not indexed by search engines and are not intended for self-promotion.
3) Citizendium is privately owned but managed on a volunteer, non-profit basis. We accept donations (not tax-deductible) and provide an annual report accounting for all funds. Editors and contributors are unpaid, although we occasionally need to pay for technical support.
4) We prohibit disruptive behavior or disrespectful speech about other contributors or their work, or anything that damages the wiki's reputation, including (but not limited to) unauthorized advertising ('spam'), vandalism, harassment, copyright violations, libel, slander, use of the site for purposes other than providing a free knowledge resource, criminal activity, or use of material that is considered either inappropriate for minors or illegal.
5) Please read our Objectivity Guidance. We strive to make our articles as understandable as possible (for the general public) while respecting the balance of scientific evidence.
6) Please read our Content Policy. We accept a wide variety of topics for articles, but not everything. Here are the article naming conventions.
7) Citizendium's Editor in Chief will try to deal with any problems that arise, first discreetly, but if necessary, by blocking of an offending account.
