Nythamar de Oliveira was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and teaches Phenomenology, Ethics and Political Philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University at Porto Alegre, Brazil.
He has earned the following degrees:
- Licence en Théologie (1985, Aix-en-Provence, France)
- Maître en Théologie (1987, Aix-en-Provence)
- Master of Arts in Philosophy (1990, Villanova University, Pennsylvania)
- Ph.D. in Philosophy (1994, State University of New York)
He was a Post-Doctoral Visiting Scholar at the New School for Social Research (1997-98, New York), London School of Economics, and the University of Kassel (2004-05), as a Humboldt Fellow.
He is the author of three books, Rawls (Zahar), Foucault's Social Philosophy (Nova Science), Tractatus Ethico-Politicus (Edipucrs), over 15 articles, and has co-edited five volumes on phenomenology and political philosophy.
