A West Coast inhabitant for decades, Kathy Ging is originally from Pittsburgh, PA, and resided in San Francisco for four years. She holds a B.A. in English literature from Muskingum College, New Concord, OH, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She has an M.A. in English literature from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

The topic of her Master's thesis was 'The Restoration of Man and Woman on the Western Side of Paradise' exploring the intellectual love relationship in the last novel of Charlotte Bronte, Villette, relating it to the seven levels of love (two physical, two emotional, two mental and one spiritual!) described in The Esoteric Philosophy of Love and Marriage by Dion Fortune.

Kathy has been an informal and formal community and political organizer indexing skills, services and tools and promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy and ecological practices for 30 years.

Her business for two decades has been selling real estate in Eugene, OR, where she earned a Graduate Realtor Institute credential.

Kathy was director of the First Annual Lane County Energy Round-Up Public Forums in 2007. She is also directing the Second Annual Lane County Energy Round-Up to be held in conjunction with the biggest national teach-in in U.S. history FocusTheNation.org on Jan. 31, 2008, whose local sponsor is the University of Oregon.

Kathy directed or co-coordinated 19 other renewable energy events in Oregon and catalyzed the addition of Energy Park to the Oregon Country Fair.

Kathy co-founded the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild, SW Oregon Chapter, helping to organize 70 educational events and spearheaded the movement to green the library, beginning a transition by Eugene to proactive green building practices.

She attended the first NewEnergyMovement.org conference, the 1st Solar Electric Power Summit and other energy conferences.

While doing graduate work at UO, she initiated the revised performance based personal income renewable energy tax credit in the Legislature in the late 80s after +/-85% of the solar businesses state and nationwide had gone bankrupt because tax credits had sunset.

In 1997, Kathy won the First Citizen Activist of the Year Award from Friends of Eugene for exceptional community service and in 2000 was chosen as one of 15 socially responsible business persons featured in Co-op America's yearly publication.

She founded the Community Skills Bank, co-founded Southern Oregon New Energy Institute and was secretary of the statewide Oregon Campaign for Public Power. She also did volunteer work to energize Emerald People's Utility District.

In gardening, community organizing, energy education and business realms, she practices Ahimsa, harmlessness.

A fan of rock n' roll and music that stimulates people to dance, she can be seen jangling a tambourine while perning in a gyre at musical venues!
