I am a graduate of Reed College living in the Portland area. My major was linguistics, and my thesis was a (re-)evaluation of the derivational morphology of an Algonquian language; the title was "Ojibwe Gender and Derivation: A Final Analysis". I am most qualified to write on issues in formal linguistics ... phonology, morphology, syntax ... or Algonquian linguistics, but I am strongly interested in alternative grammatical frameworks, the history of the discipline, and socio-anthropological linguistics as well. Additionally, I am passably familiar with predicate logic, and am drawn to topics like atheism, creationism, left-wing politics, philosophy of science, minority language rights and sustainability like a moth to a flame. Beyond that, I like good conversation, good jokes, soccer, baseball, biking and skiing (if I can afford it).
