Charlie Levenson has spent 25-plus years in commercial media and interactive media development, first in TV commercial and industrial film production, and then as Head of Research Administration for the Motion Picture Creative Group at Touchstone Pictures / Walt Disney Productions. Charlie relocated his family to Portland, Oregon in 1990.
After a stint with Wieden & Kennedy he began working with a start-up interactive media development company - Multimedia Resources, Inc. Through nine years, four name changes, three owners, and even a seven month disappearing act (during which time he worked as Creative Director & Senior Strategist for Creative Multimedia Corporation - the first CD-ROM company in the USA), he continued to work with MRI as it evolved into iHealthMedia - a division of Landacorp, Inc.
Charlie has worked as a multimedia producer, writer, director, interface designer, information architect, marketing director, and even voice-over talent. During the golden age of the dot coms, he spent five years building e-business strategies and Web sites for health care clients, including managed care companies, provider networks, and hospitals. His peaked with his position as Creative Director and Senior Producer at iHealthMedia.com until that group closed down in July of 2001.
Charlie has been an instructor for the Multimedia Certification Program in the Professional Development Center of the School of Extended Studies at Portland State University since 1995 when the program was first formed. He primarily teaches "Business Strategies for New Media," though he continues to adamantly refer to it as "Multimedia 101."
In 2003 Charlie took on the position of Web Manager for the highly prestigious and historic Multnomah Athletic Club where he continues to work, now in the position of Manager of Electronic Communications.
In addition to public speaking on interactive development, communications law, and political media; Charlie deals (well) and plays (badly) at hold-em poker; writes plays, articles, and fiction; does occasional communications consulting work; all while pursuing his life-long mission of making the world safer for its users. He lives in a "skinny house" in St. Johns, Oregon with his wife Michelle.
Notes:
1. I spell terribly. I _do_ use spell check (even on my e-mail) but some things will get past me. PLEASE feel free to fix my spelling.
2. I am not brilliant with my English grammar, but more than likely, if I used a sentence construction or punctuation mark it _was_ done on purpose, so you English Majors out there should double-check before doing a grammar edit. I admit to significant use (I would argue NOT "overuse") of parentheticals and the semi-colon.
3. Born in New Jersey, grew up in West Orange, New York City, Brookline (MA), Rome, London, Beirut and Tobago. HS in Plymouth, NH and graduated from Occidental College, in (Eagle Rock) Los Angeles. Lived in El Sereno, California for 15 years but never owned a home until moving to Aloha, OR.
