I am a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bristol, U.K., in the field of theoretical biology. My main interests are in mathematically modelling of population biology, including conservation biology, epidemiology and bio-control. I suspect that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from life.
More generally, I am interested in applied mathematics of all sorts, particularly applied probability and stochastic processes, which was the field of my doctoral studies at the University of Queensland, Australia. I also have a Bachelor of Science in statistics and a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy, although I find it very difficult to directly apply the latter to my current research.
My non-academic interests include natural history, popular science and technology, and speculative fiction. When venturing outside, I enjoy SCUBA diving, snow skiing and walking, but not all at the same time.
