It's a little surprising to come upon the 2nd KKK in the lead without having mentioned the 1st, so I added a sentence in what I hope is harmony with the main discussion below.DavidGoodman 21:16, 2 November 2006 (CST)

That resulted from CZ having imported a vandalized version of the article from WP. I've now reinserted the original lead and another section of the article with its original sources. That said, the article is way too long and needs to be edited for length. Best,--Jason Sanford 10:19, 6 November 2006 (CST)
I don't even agree with the "three separate Klans" statement. Growing up in the South where my forebears lived since the American Civil War, there was always a Klan chapter where I lived. People said it in everyday conversation (I was from a white family). No one actually admitted to belonging to it, but it was definitely always there and definitely got stirred up from time to time over some local matter. Who even thinks they know that it died out? It's a very secretive organization to start with. I propose taking out that statement, and just saying instead, that that Klan went through three distinct phases in visibility historically. Hi Pat, I think the article could certainly use a better, more descriptive lead. Definitely in the lead I think it's pointless to describe it as being three separate organizations; how about something more like this in the lead. "The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) is the name of various secretive, white supremacy organizations originated in the United States of America after the Civil War." BEST, Jack S. I like it! Please "make it so" per Captain Kirk :-) Pat Palmer (talk) 13:47, 21 March 2023 (CDT)
