First (instructor) evaluation comments

Hi Ben,

Here are some suggestions for further improvements to your encyclopedia entry draft. I'm going to stick to the sections you've already started developing, but keep in mind that you still need to fill in the others as well as the related articles, bibliography, and external links subpages.

  • You might make the section on the AAUP's founding more reader-friendly by providing more context; for example, more background information about the four individuals you mention and more information about how Lovejoy and Dewey went about founding their organization. Also, what happened in the 15-year interim between Ross's firing and the foundation of the AAUP? You might want to research beyond the AAUP's website for this.
  • Once the "Founding" subsection is done, you might create additional subsections within the "History" section to chronicle the AAUP's development since the 1910s.
  • In the "Current Objectives and Activities" section, make sure to provide information about the national organization, not one of its state branches.
  • The information you provide in the "Organizational structure" section should be presented in essay rather than list form.
  • Instead of parentheses in your text, source citations should be in the form of footnotes made following the instructions on the handout about writing your encyclopedia article.

Second (peer) evaluation comments

You're off to a good start it seems, but of course you'll need to find some more information for each of the sections. Everything you have so far is information I had seen while I was doing my own research on the AAUP. I had trouble finding information besides on the AAUP website, I'm sure you did too, but luckily they did have quite a bit. All your sections are set up to be easily followed. You seem to be heading in the right direction, you just need more info. On the AAUP's website, there is a lot of information about women professors and how far they have come throughout history in higher education. I thought it was pretty interesting and it could be something you could incorporate into your accomplishment section. There was also a court case listed about a female teacher that had a few small children at home and her employer wanted to "dismiss" her, but she fought and was able to keep her job; now there is a law regarding the issue. As for writing my opinion essay, you had a good enough amount of information for to begin the essay. You covered the basics and I was able to easily start after reading your page.
