Thanks very much for the below--this is helpful. But I'm hoping someone can "refactor" (look it up!) this and make it into one single text I can read in a minute. If it's even reasonably good, I'll use it. And the above comments are definitely reasonably good! Just think: what is the best one-minute introduction I could give to CZ?

One of the things I like about CZ is its relative virginity, there is still lots of space to write about different subjects. (But this is -- hopefully -- a very temporary advantage).
Many different kinds of reference sources exist, but none are like this. 'The Citizendium' is designed from the ground up, intended to bridge the realm between average people with specialized or general knowledge and those who are knowledgeable experts in a specific field. It is primarly about participation; connecting those who have a desire to push the availability of knowledge to all audiences: the rich, the poor, the povert, the wise, the schooled, and the amateur. But we understand that this cannot be accomplished blindly and with reckless abandon; it is about establishing yourself in a sea of authors and editors to whom you have a common interest with. Are you a rocket scientist? Are you a civil engineer? Did you earn a Nobel Prize? Are you a librarian, or a home maker? This is what we strive to acheive.
Have you ever thought of an error-free encyclopedia that's available online free? Moreover, you can contribute there as well! No, we are not talking of Wikipedia - here everyone uses their real names only. And, "expert editors" work shoulder-to-shoulder. Does it sound interesting? Why don't you have a look at the "Approved articles" first? If that looks good, you can apply for authorship/editorship and join the fun!
