Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin (born October 7, 1952) is the President of Russia. He succeeded Boris Yeltsin on December 31, 1999. In the Soviet era he worked for the KGB and in the 1990s he was a businessman. He is married to Lyudmila Putina, née Shkrebneva, and they have two daughters, Maria Putina and Yekaterina Putina.
