I am beginning this article, as it links from Surgery and Cosmetic Surgery. I think that it should be able to satisfy the lay person who might be interested in the term because he or she has just been told that "this surgery is elective", in regards to themselves or a family member, as well as the more scholarly reader. In regards to the latter, the concept of elective v emergency surgery is very important in the analysis of health care delivery, and epidemiologic considerations of morbidity and mortality, as well as legal aspects of Medicine. So, as a start, I think that all of those points should be covered. As always, I encourage all interested citizens to join me here. Nancy Sculerati MD 07:30, 1 March 2007 (CST)
