The most destructive war in human history, a worldwide conflict that ended in 1945, with estimated battle deaths of 15 million and over 38 million civilians killed, including the Holocaust and the hostilities involving Japan and China beginning in 1937, in which the "Allies" (UK, US, Soviet Union) eventually stopped expansion by the "Axis" (Germany, Japan).
