  • La Jolla, one of the surf spots mentioned in the Beach Boys’ song “Surfin’ U.S.A.,” is located in San Diego. Some of the other places listed in the song (Del Mar, Swami’s [in Encinitas], and San Onofre [in northern San Diego County]) are near the city.
  • San Diego is one of several places where Jimmy Buffet says he “don’t want to land...when the volcano blow” in his song “Volcano.”
  • The Geisel Library at the University of California, San Diego, was used as the "spacecraft" in the low-budget spoof science-fiction film "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes."
  • Many scenes in the UPN/CW television series “Veronica Mars” were filmed in San Diego (though the series was set in the fictional town of Neptune and on the campus of the fictional Hearst College).
