The Oakland Athletics are a Major League Baseball team based in Oakland, California. The team was founded in 1901 as the Philadelphia Athletics, as one of the inaugural teams in the American League. [1] [2]

Championships

The team has had a total of 9 championship-winning seasons in the modern era (1901 and later) of major-league baseball, winning the World Series in 1910, 1911, 1913, 1929, 1930, 1972, 1973, 1974, and 1989. They were also American League champions, but lost in the World Series, 5 times, in 1905, 1914, 1931, 1988, and 1990. Prior to the start of the modern World Series in 1903, the team won the American League title in 1902, the league's second year. [3]
