Statement of problem

Please be brief and specific in your request (polar questions are best) and add relevant links if available. Please state a time frame in which you expect a decision.

What time and date should be used in Citizendium articles when covering events? Should there be a distinction between events involving one or several time zones? Example events: Earthquakes, dates of birth, declarations of independence. --Daniel Mietchen 14:14, 2 May 2011 (CDT)

Draft decision

The text below is what I plan to decide in this case. Feel free to edit the text if you think this improves it. If your edits require discussion, please use the dedicated section below. Editing and discussion in this "Draft decision" section shall stop 24h after my last edit to it.'

If an event was confined to one time zone, the Citizendium article should state the respective times in local time and date (as defined at the time of the event) if possible. If an event occurred across several time zones, it is strongly recommended that the Citizendium article state the time and date according to UTC. In both cases, exceptions require justification by a relevant Editor.
