Human Trafficking is the illegal trade of persons in a position of vulnerability by means of force or coercion for purpose of exploitation. It is the second-largest criminal industry in the world. In 2000, the United Nations adopted the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children. This was the first time the issue of human trafficking was addressed on an international level1. The establishment of a legal definition of Trafficking in Persons (TIP) enabled a global approach to tackling this issue.
