Alec McAllister: professional computerist, amateur medievalist, pathological linguist. Born 18th June 1953 in Durham, UK. Educated at Darlington Grammar School, then BA English (University of Leeds). Postgraduate Certificate of Education (University of Newcastle), then 9 years as a schoolteacher. 1985 MSc in IT (University of York). Worked in a software company, writing Computer-Aided Learning materials, until 1990, when I joined the staff of the University of Leeds. I am now the university's Multilingual Computing Co-ordinator. 2001 Co-founder of the Medieval Unicode Font Initiative (http://www.mufi.info/). Maker of fonts, keyboard mappings and software to convert the encoding of texts. Married with two daughters.
