The intel iapx 432 is a central processing unit designed by integrated circuit manufacturer intel.[1] The CPU was first in 1981. It was not popular. John Dvorak, writing in PC Magazine in 2006 called it
- "...a processor that was one of the biggest flops in Intel’s history, but one of the more fascinating chips the company designed."
According to Dvorak, while intel's marketing department does not like to talk about the 432 it influenced other intel projects, particularly the intel 960.[1]
The 432 was not a single chip computer.[1] The CPU had separate chips. At its core were a decoder/sequencer and a execution unit. It also required an I/O controller and a bus interface unit and memory control unit.
