Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) is a system of codes for standard medical procedures, developed by the American Medical Association.[1] It is widely used for billing and reimbursements, and for recording procedures in an electronic health record. It is updated frequently.
While there are some modifying suffixes, the basic CPT code is five numeric digits.
