Comets are balls of ice, gas and dust in a strongly elliptical orbit with the Sun at one end. They are only visible when they are near the Sun but are much larger than they seem - the tail of some comets is over 1,000,000km long.

  • Halley's Comet
  • Tago-Sato-Kosaka Comet
