Passive protection (naval) [r]: While passive protection of warships once equated to armor (naval), modern weapons have grown sufficiently lethal that armor alone cannot ensure survivability; there is still limited use of armor, but the first goal, on which stealth and electronic warfare are focused, is not to be hit; other techniques include shock-hardening against underwater explosions
