VH1 Greatest Hard Rock Songs was a program on VH1 Classic provided by VH1. Hosted by Bret Michaels, it was a five-part program that first aired from 29 December 2008, to 2 January 2009. Unlike most countdowns on VH1 Classic, it consisted of songs by modern bands, including Creed, Foo Fighters, Buckcherry, and The Darkness. Commentary over the songs was provided by the likes of David Coverdale, Ozzy Osbourne, Ronnie James Dio, Slash, Lemmy, Sebastian Bach, Dee Snider, Sammy Hagar, Scott Stapp, Joe Perry, Rob Halford, Ted Nugent, Amy Lee, Edgar Winter, Nikki Sixx, Andrew W.K., Scott Ian, Dave Mustaine, Alice Cooper, Scott Weiland, Kip Winger, Don Dokken, Dave Navarro and more.

It was voted on by the general public at the VH1 website in 2008. In total, VH1 received over 600,000 votes.

Five bands have two songs each on the list: AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, and The Who. No band has three or more. The oldest song on the list is "You Really Got Me" by The Kinks, going back all the way to 1964. Meanwhile, the newest song is "Slither" by Velvet Revolver from 2004. The only instrumental is "Frankenstein", by Edgar Winter Group. The longest is Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida," at over 17 minutes in duration, with the shortest being "Blitzkrieg Bop" by the Ramones, coming in at 2 minutes and 14 seconds. The only all female band with a song on the list was The Runaways with "Cherry Bomb".
