What a Botany good article is:

The purpose of this page is to help the newcomers to know what we believe a Botany good article should look and include. The first step is making sure you read our general advices about articles in Article Mechanics and Sage advice on writing CZ articles. These recommendations apply to all CZ articles. As Botany is subdivided into several disciplines the article contents varies accordingly, therefore the recommendations are different as follow:

Taxonomy and systematics

Articles about species, genera, families and other ranks of plants classification are very welcome as they are one of the main Botany disciplines. Some clues, steps to follow and items to include are:

• Add cat:Biology and sub:Botany on metadata form.
• Be sure complete the definition field on article talk page.
• Add a taxobox, this gives easy information about the taxon and the reader immediately see it is an article of Botany. Botany articles have light green taxoboxes. Try to make it as much complete as possible, including authors names and publication dates and types genera or types species as well. When the list of subordinated ranks are not too large, maybe up to 20, add them to the taxobox, otherwise include on the article text or a subpage. Try also to include the synonyms when there are any.
• Include photographs, despite they are now always available, they make that article much better. Try to include at least one. You do not have a photo? then look for an illustration. It is likely you will find some nice ones from old original descriptions. A large number of them are currently on-line.
• Besides the intro which should be a brief summary or the article containing the most important information, we suggest the article should include the following topics:

1. Distribution and habitat
2. Habit and growth
3. Morphology and pollination
4. Taxonomy, phylogeny and evolution if known
5. History of its culture, importance and uses
6. Culture or production information
7. References

Certainly, depending on the article subject, these sections may vary a lot in content some may be merged, other will no apply. They can be subdivided into subsections or split into other sections. Some may be excluded as not always information is available.

• Try to design the article with a good looking layout avoiding big blank areas and placing photographs, that are not too small nor too large, in spots where they do not overlap sections headers.
