Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at CZ:Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! D. Matt Innis 22:50, 3 October 2008 (CDT)
Some ideas for contributions
Сәлем Миржан — welcome aboard CZ. Matt has already given you some hints as to how things work here in general, and I wish to add some more practical hints on what possibilities you have to contribute. For a start, I just took some of the keywords from the information you supplied upon registration, and display below the current state of related CZ articles (for documentation, see Template:Rpl/Doc):
- Ska: Musical genre originating in Jamaica in the late 1950s combining Caribbean mento and calypso with jazz and rhythm and blues. [e]
- Reggae: A term for a particular music style that emerged in Jamaica in the late 1960s. [e]
- Music: The art of structuring time by combining sound and silence into rhythm, harmonies and melodies. [e]
- Anarchism: Doctrine that all forms of government are undesirable and should be abolished. [e]
- Atheism: Absence of belief in any god or other supernatural beings. [e]
- Positivism: Add brief definition or description
- Video game: A game played using an electronic controller to manipulate images on a display screen. [e]
- Mathematics: The study of quantities, structures, their relations, and changes thereof. [e]
- Programming language: A formal language specification, and programs for translating the formal language to machine code. [e]
- Jamaica: Caribbean island nation that became independent in 1962; formerly part of the British Empire and built on the slave trade (population about 2.8 million). [e]
- Kazakhstan: A landlocked central Asian nation, formerly part of the Soviet Union, bordered by China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan [e]
- Kazakh language: Add brief definition or description
- Central Asia: A geographic area with many definitions, one common one based on the newly independent, predominantly Muslim republics of the former Soviet Union [e]
I am also interested in the history and especially the culture of Central Asia, as my band is performing traditional Central Asian music, and so I would welcome collaboration on CZ articles related to that. For such an example, see Ari Babakhanov.
