Gustav Mahler (July 7, 1860, Kaliště, Bohemia – May 18, 1911, Vienna, Austria) was an Austrian composer and conductor.
Mahler wrote only symphonies and song cycles, and there is some overlap between the two: for example, his last work Das Lied von der Erde he regarded as a symphony, though one might take it for a song cycle, while several of his ten numbered symphonies feature singers.
Mahler's family were Jewish.
