Swami Satyananda (b. 1923) was born in Almora, Uttar Pradesh, India. He met Swami Sivananda at Rishikesh in 1943 and, at that time, adopted the Dashnami Sannyasa lifestyle. In 1955 he left the ashram at Rishikesh as a wandering mendicant, and later, in 1963, founded the International Yoga Fellowship, as well as the Bihar School of Yoga in 1964. In 1987, after authoring more than 80 books, and lecturing internationally, he founded Sivananda Math, a charitable organization dedicated to supporting rural development. In 1988, he renounced his mission, adopted kshetra sannyasa, and now lives as a parahahamsa saanyasin. [1]
