Conservatism is a concept of political theory used as a shortcut to refer to a wide swath of people who allegedly hold similar values. The conservative ideal is one of limiting social change, preserving traditional family and gender and sexuality mores, staunch patriotism for one's country, and fiscal restraint, resisting extensive immigration from other countries, and often, it includes a refusal to fund support for people in need.
