Eugene is a city in the U.S. state of Oregon, and home to the University of Oregon, a public research university. Eugene is the third largest city in the state, with an estimated population of 172,622 in 2019. The city is located at the southern end of the Willamette Valley, Oregon's most-populous region, near the confluence of the Willamette and McKenzie rivers. It is home to the flagship campus of the University of Oregon.

Eugene is noted for being a bastion of counterculture and alternative lifestyles, with a large original hippie population. The city's long association with the sport of track running has earned it the nickname of "TrackTown USA".

Eugene is also a stopping point on the Amtrak train line which runs north-south along the west coast of the U. S.
