Cranberry sauce is made from cranberries, sugar and water. Sometimes orange zest is added to the sauce. Cooked cranberry sauce is made by adding the ingredients to a saucepan and brought to a gentleboil. The cranberries are cooked until their skins "pop". The sauce is then placed in the refrigerator and chilled.

Fresh or raw cranberry sauce is usually chopped with sugar, nuts and oranges added to the mixture. The mixture is then chilled in the refrigerator until ready-to-serve.
