The term 'calorie restriction', alternatively 'caloric restriction', refers to the procedure of reducing food energy intake, in an animal, to or nearly to, the minimum that sustains life without malnutrition, a procedure experimentally shown to improve health and extend lifespan across species, though science has not yet produced results of controlled experiments demonstrating extended lifespan in Homo sapiens.
