Genethlialogy (casting nativities) is the doctrine that an individual can be informed of the course of his life on the basis of the positions of the planets and of the zodiacal signs (named after the twelve zodiac constellations) at the moment of his birth or conception. It is one of the fundamental techniques of astrology. The term stems from the ancient Greek word γενεθλον (birth).

Genethlialogy is a branch of astrology (though it is not accepted by many astrologers) and shares its controversial status, disregarded by many as a pseudoscience but seen by others as a valid source of knowledge.
