Virtual private network/Definition

A communications system that interconnects one or more customer-defined set of sites with routed, data link, or physical connectivity, mapped through an underlying customer-owned or provider-provisioned backbone. It may provided connectivity alone, or connectivity with guarantees of security and quality of service.
