Daniel Tarr was a sailor in the United States Coast Guard, who earned a Silver Star for his command of landing boats during the amphibious assault on Tulagi, during World War II.[1]

Tarr, and three other Coast Guard sailors were assigned to the USS McKean, a World War One flush-deck destroyer that had been modified to be a fast amphibious transport.[1] The McKean had four pair of large davits installed, to hand four landing craft. Vessels like the McKean were modified to carry a company of Marines.

The Tulagi assault was the USA's first amphibious assault in the Pacific in World War Two.[1] Tarr and the other three coxswains were awarded Silver Stars.
