Incident
Lecture theatre fighting case
On 18 April 2018, a fight involving 3 students broke out at the lecture theatre. The video of the incident was also publicised on social media. In the video, a student dressed in a yellow and black striped shirt can be seen shouting aggressively, before he is confronted and briefly choked by another student in a black shirt. As a lecturer tries to stop the scuffle, the student in the yellow and black striped shirt continues his tirade, hurling vulgarities and gesturing at several students. A man in a red polo T-shirt trying to stop him but to no avail. Later, the student is seen picking a fight with another student wearing a red singlet.
The TP spokesperson responded to the incident and stated that: “A scuffle broke out involving three first year students, after one of them created a disturbance in the lecture theatre at about 11am yesterday. Staff who were present intervened and eventually calmed the students down. No one was injured.
All three students have been instructed to make themselves available to assist with the investigation. In addition to being counselled, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken where necessary.”[1][2]
The student dressed in a yellow and black striped shirt later told the news media that the male student in red clothing looked down on students from ITE.[3]
