Having completed his secondary education (German "Abitur") in 1999, Torsten Kathke began studying American Cultural History, American Literary History, and Drama at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich, Germany, in the fall of 2001.
He worked as a teaching assistant at the LMU's Amerika-Institut and served as a student representative during the course of his studies.
Since completing his M.A. with a thesis on the creationism/evolution controversy in the American "culture wars" in the summer of 2006, he has been a Ph.D. candidate at LMU. His current studies focus on perceptions of nationality and democracy in 19th century America.
