Chuichi Nagumo [r]: {1887-1944) Vice Admiral, Imperial Japanese Navy; commanded the Battle of Pearl Harbor force primarily through seniority but was not considered innovative or aggressive; early successes fell to failures from mid-1942; committed suicide while part of the defense in the Battle of Saipan
