Pangaea, also spelt Pangea, from the Greek for all earth, was a supercontinent thought to have existed approximately 200 million years ago. The ocean around it was accordingly known as Panthalassa.[1]
Origins
The term was coined by Alfred Wegener, notable for theorising the continental drift theory. He came up with the idea after he noticed that South America and Africa apparently fitted together almost perfectly.
