The 2012 Summer Olympics or Games of the XXX Olympiad was an international sporting event that mostly took place in London, United Kingdom in July and August. The city will also host the XV Paralympic Games later in August.
The Games officially opened on 27th July 2012 with an international ceremony of music, dance and comedy that highlighted key events in British history and culture. Some events had already got underway across the UK, such as football, which started two days earlier.
