The company was founded by a then-married couple, Len Bosack and Sandy Lerner in 1984. [1] Both were computer science professors at Stanford University. At that time, Cisco was one of the two main challengers in the router market, the other being Wellfleet; Wellfleet's identity disappeared in a series of mergers and acquisitions, while Cisco became known for its acqusitions.
