I'm beginning to wonder if we need a Herringology Subgroup. Now, in my work with commercial fishing, there are complexities in both catching and finding the fish. In economics, however, one of the financial disclosure documents, required by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commision, is called the Red Herring, and there is, indeed, a financial magazine named Red Herring.
Does, however, redness imply Marxist and Socialist potential? In my pleasant times at a Scandinavian hotel buffet, red herrings were among a wide range of colors, my culinary preference being for the white (sour cream) and the silver (overindulged in wine).
The herring fishery is a major element in the Chilean and Peruvian economies, but, closer to you, the Scottish Pelagic Sustainability Group’s (SPSG) Atlanto-Scandian herring fishery has been certified as a sustainable fishery under the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) standard.
