This template helps to transclude articles chosen to be displayed as Article of the Week or a New Draft of the Week on the Welcome page.

Rationale

  • Updating the Welcome page with Articles and New Drafts of the Week has been tedious and error-prone so far. This template should help in keeping things simple.
  • During the time an article (or its intro) is displayed on the Welcome page, the relevant text portions existed there and in the article itself, so any updates had to be synchronized. This template keeps the text in one place, that of the article, and transcludes the relevant text portions from there.

Usage

  1. Make sure that the formatting issues listed under "Pitfalls" below have been met (this is the case if {{Candidate}} worked properly}.
  2. Go to the "Winner" section of CZ:New Draft of the Week or CZ:Article of the Week and replace the article name in the call of the {{Winner}} template.
  3. Carefully check for typos, spaces, curly brackets etc. — after saving, the content of the Winner article will be directly visible at the Welcome page. Please confirm that the formatting is OK there too.

Pitfalls

  • {{Winner}} only works as intended if the relevant portions of the article are enclosed in onlyinclude tags:

<onlyinclude> relevant article text here </onlyinclude>

  • This may cause problems with larger structures (e.g. infoboxes), and so it is advisable not to include them into the onlyinclude tags, or to enclose them with noinclude tags:
<noinclude>
your image, video or table here
</noinclude>
  • In order to have the first mention of the title in the text clickable, it should be defined as a wikilink (even though this has not been common practice so far):
The '''[[precise article title|title or a variant thereof]]''' is ...
