- Yes, capitalizing the names of code words, such as those used for invations, was standard practice among the Western Allies in WWII. It has persisted in the U.S. military, such that U.S. participation in Operation DESERT STORM had British participation as Operation Telic and French as Opération Daguet. Howard C.
