"It's possible that 'Stairway to Heaven' also makes many references to Tolkien's story. The phrase, 'In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees' could be a reference to the smoke rings blown by the wizard Gandalf.[13] Some scholars believe the song itself was inspired by the novel - and that the lady spoken of in the tale is Lady Galadriel, the Queen of Elves who lives in the golden forest of Lothlórien. I'm sorry, but that's a stretch. I appreciate that CZ is less rigorous than WP about weasel words, but - fan though I am of both Zep and LoTR I find this paragraph a bit cringeworthy. IMO we could happily lose this paragraph completely. OTOH the Tolkien - Zep connection is perhaps significant enough to feature in a page in its own right. Unfortunately I'm not up to it - I don't believe my skills or patience are sufficient. --[[User:Matthew Simon Quartermain|Matthew Simon Quartermain]] 19:56, 7 May 2010 (UTC) |
