Adria Budd-Johnson is a Canadian film producer and alumnus of the prestigious Canadian Film Centre.[1]

The Hollywood Reporter reported that Budd-Johnson and her husband Eric Johnson had partnered with a Chinese producer to write romantic comedy entitled "The Shanghai Hotel".[2]

The pair met in 2001, when they both worked on the Smallville television series.[3] They married in 2004, and Budd-Johnson gave birth to a daughter in 2007.

In an interview with People magazine, her husband Eric described how he was able to prepare for playing a villain in Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, by discussing the books with his wife, who had already read them.[4] At least one magazine interpreted the People interview as a sign the pair had been inspired by the book to follow Grey's example.[5]

In 2015 Budd was awarded the Women in Film and Television Toronto Banff World Media Festival Scholarship.[1]

In 2016 Budd was invited to be a participant in Bell Media's Executive Producer Accelerator Lab.[6]

Budd-Johnson has produced multiple films, including Fishbowl, Blinded, Beauty Shot, Candy from Strangers, and, most recently, Poohlan, about the Indian female rights activist Poohlan Devi.[3]
