Fukuoka prefecture (福岡県 Fukuoka-ken) is an area of Japan located on the island of Kyushu. Its population was 5,054,000 in 2006.[1]
Fukuoka prefecture shares its name with its own capital city, Fukuoka (福岡市 Fukuoka-shi). The city's main railway station, however, is known as Hakata (博多駅 Hakata Eki).
