First, I'm not sure this will remain a disambiguation page, because it's all about dogs.  It could be written in narrative style without too much of a problem. I'm still wondering whether the blurb at [[doghouse]] should be incoporated here, but I dither, since all doghouses are kennels, but not all kennels are doghouses.
Yes, ''cattery'' is to cat as ''kennel'' is to dog.  Yes, AFAIK it is the only word.  It means "cat hotel" and also "breeding establishment" and "cat house"  NOT in the sense of brothel!  Cheeky monkey!

I don't know what the focus on dogs is about, but I might take my cat to a kennel if I needed it temporarily housed while I was away; is there a specific word for a "cat hotel" ? --Robert W King 11:37, 16 October 2007 (CDT)

As it is a disambiguation page, if there it is normal usage for cats then you should rewrite it. But check in some reference books first! --Martin Baldwin-Edwards 12:04, 16 October 2007 (CDT)
Well, that's exactly my point Martin ;). I don't know what the normal usage would be. Perhaps "Cat-house"? But cathouse can also mean a place where sex is traded for money. --Robert W King 12:07, 16 October 2007 (CDT)
The word for a cat-hotel is "cattery". See, for example, [1].Jeffrey Scott Bernstein 12:21, 16 October 2007 (CDT)
Is it "the word" or just "a word"? --Robert W King 12:25, 16 October 2007 (CDT)
To the best of my knowledge, it is the only word in the English language which specifically means "an establishment of cats" (OED).Jeffrey Scott Bernstein 12:31, 16 October 2007 (CDT)

Kennels and catteries

First, I'm not sure this will remain a disambiguation page, because it's all about dogs. It could be written in narrative style without too much of a problem. I'm still wondering whether the blurb at doghouse should be incoporated here, but I dither, since all doghouses are kennels, but not all kennels are doghouses.

Yes, cattery is to cat as kennel is to dog. Yes, AFAIK it is the only word. It means "cat hotel" and also "breeding establishment" and "cat house" NOT in the sense of brothel! Cheeky monkey!
