Welcome

Citizendium Getting Started
Quick Start | About us | Help system | Start a new article | For Wikipedians

Tasks: start a new article • add basic, wanted or requested articles • add definitionsadd metadata • edit new pages

Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start, and see Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, our help system and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forum is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any user or the editors for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun!

Category_talk:Computers_Workgroup

I think we're going to be doing most of that sort of conversing at Citizendium_Pilot_talk:Computers_Workgroup, based on convention established by other workgroups. Not that there's anything wrong with where you put it, but we want to keep these discussions collated. Thanks for your contributions, and I look forward to working with you, especially as you might be the only other Cavalier on here. -- ZachPruckowski (Talk) 10:46, 9 February 2007 (CST)

L articles

I may have marked a few you've brought over for deleting in the speedy project-- if you want to check, go back and remove the tags & say they should be kept. DavidGoodman 18:54, 18 February 2007 (CST)

Re: L articles

I'm not sure what you mean. --Nick Johnson 13:00, 21 February 2007 (CST)

Distributed computation

Hi Nick, I don't know if you still intend to write that article, but if so, you might notice that when deleting a duplicate you deleted your own name from CZ:The Big Write. --Larry Sanger 15:09, 23 February 2007 (CST)

Oh, I see now that someone else deleted your name (inadvertantly I'm sure). I'll add it in for you. --Larry Sanger 15:11, 23 February 2007 (CST)

The Article Checklist

I applaud the growing list of contributions you're making to the "Computers Workgroup" articles (we've been hurting for Authors!), however I'd ask that you please add the Article Checklist to any articles you start. Thanks. --Eric M Gearhart 15:03, 11 April 2007 (CDT)

Sure Eric. I've been going in and out of citizendium activity, and I guess I missed that memo.--Nick Johnson 15:08, 11 April 2007 (CDT)

C sharp versus C#

Over at Talk:Stack frame you asked "How am I supposed to write a link to the C-sharp programming language": I'd recommend possibly starting the C sharp programming language and then having a note at the top stating "The correct title of this article is C#" or something to that effect. This naming is also consistent with the C programming language article. Welcome (back) aboard by the way! --Eric M Gearhart 15:11, 11 April 2007 (CDT)

I have been using C sharp because I thought the full phrase above was too long to type all the time. I guess we can sort it out later when someone finally starts the article. I might start that article in the near future; I've done a lot of C sharp programming (it's pretty cool too).Pat Palmer 10:41, 24 April 2007 (CDT)

Recently uploaded image(s)

Hi. Thanks for contributing to CZ! I hate to have to tell you this but one or more images you recently uploaded are lacking clear copyright data. Please carefully review the image(s) you uploaded while referencing Images Help—Copyrights. Please fix the problem rapidly, as the image(s) will otherwise have to be deleted. Thanks! — Stephen Ewen 02:38, 14 April 2007 (CDT)

Is that better? --Nick Johnson 09:18, 16 April 2007 (CDT)

Java platform

Nick, I wrote a little paragraph in response to your concerns over at Talk:Java platform‎ Eric M Gearhart

Unix file system

That'd be great. I actually started a similar section in the Linux article a while back, but the majority ruled in removing it from the article. What should we call it, Unix file system? --Joshua David Williams 13:19, 16 April 2007 (CDT)

Great! Maybe A tour of the filesystem of a typical Unix? --Nick Johnson 13:23, 16 April 2007 (CDT)

That seems a bit length, doesn't it? --Joshua David Williams 13:30, 16 April 2007 (CDT)

I agree, it does. My only problem with the name Unix file system is that the name might refer to how files/directories/links are organized on disk (the file system itself), or perhaps what kinds of information the unix file system catalogs (owner, group, permissions, name limits, links, etc). We are trying to write about the naming and structure conventions that appear on a typical unix box. Maybe Unix file system conventions? Or Unix directory structure conventions--Nick Johnson 13:33, 16 April 2007 (CDT)

How about Unix directory structure? --Joshua David Williams 13:41, 16 April 2007 (CDT)

Sure. Let's go with it. --Nick Johnson 13:50, 16 April 2007 (CDT)

I'll let you have the privilege of creating it since you came up with the idea. I'll start writing as soon as I see the page exists. :-) --Joshua David Williams 13:51, 16 April 2007 (CDT)

moved Compilers out from Translation System

Hi there, you have a link on your user page to Translation system. Just letting you know it probably should now go to compiler (I have split these apart; see their talk pages for more info).Pat Palmer 03:35, 9 May 2007 (CDT)

I see you are a compiler person. Would you care to take over and work on compilers some more at this point? I just tried to comglomerate some scattered information into it and work on it's skeleton outline. Please, save me (and poor readers) by taking it over again?Pat Palmer 04:24, 9 May 2007 (CDT)
