Please feel free to help wherever something is lacking or unclear. I'll keep an updated list of items that need to be addressed here; please feel free to add to this list as well. Joe Quick
Need
- If anyone can find a reliable source for population numbers, please provide it here. Currently, population is listed as "about 2 million" because I was finding numbers anywhere between 1.8 million and 2.6 million. I suspect that this has a lot to do with inconsistent measures of "Quichéness" so a reputable source would be helpful.
- all of the sections or subsections with no info
- general copyediting
Apostrophes
Perhaps you could tell us the reason for the apostrophes ("Quiché" is much more user-friendly). Are they glottal stops like the okina Hawaiians use in "Hawai'i"? Surely not after K? Ro Thorpe 18:35, 8 December 2007 (CST)
- Yep, they're glottal stops alright. Even the one after the K. You should sound a like you're choking when you pronounce it.
- "K'iche'" is the proper spelling of the group's ethnonym in the standardized Maya script; "Quiché" is Spanish. In the past, most scholars simply dropped any accents from Spanish spellings to come up with names for Maya groups, but the norm today is to use the standardized Maya spelling. --Joe Quick 19:15, 8 December 2007 (CST)
